ELEVENTH BIENNIAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BAROQUE MUSIC

Manchester, 14th-18th July 2004

Abstract

Round Table on the Ballet de la Délivrance de Renault

Participants: Georgie Durosoir (France), Charles Downey (USA), Greer Garden (New Zealand), Kate van Orden (USA), Peter Walls (New Zealand).

The Ballet de la Délivrance de Renault (1617) was one of the most ambitious of ballet de cour productions in the first half of the 17th century. It is unusually well documented, with dance and vocal music, engravings depicting costume and set designs, a printed narrative describing the action, complimentary vers, and various contemporary accounts all surviving. This round table brings together a team of scholars participating in an interdisciplinary project hosted by the Centre de Musique Baroque in Versailles.
